Care of Prosthesis and Prosthetic Guidelines

Congratulations on your new prosthesis. Whether it is endoskeletal, with a soft foam cover, or exoskeletal, with a hard lamined finish, there are helpful guidelines to follow.

AVOID GETTING YOUR PROSTHESIS WET. Any wood, metal, or foam components can swell, rust, or saturate which would adversely affect the function of the prosthesis.
NOISES. Be aware of any unusual creaking sounds, popping or clicking noises, and contact your prosthetist for an immediate inspection.
HEAT. Do not leave the prosthesis in the hot car, as it is possible for items to loose their shape.
WEIGHT LOSS AND WEIGHT GAIN CAN AFFECT THE FIT OF YOUR PROSTHESIS. Contact your prosthetist for any necessary adjustments.
WIPE OUT THE INSIDE OF YOUR ABOVE KNEE SUCTION SOCKET PROSTHESIS WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL AND LET DRY OVERNIGHT FOR BEST PERSONAL HYGIENE.
PROSTHETIC SOCKS SHOULD BE CHANGED DAILY. Always wear a clean dry sock.
LOCKING LINERS AND ALPHA LINERS SHOULD BE WASHED DAILY ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURE'S DIRECTIONS.
CONTACT YOUR PROSTHETIST FOR ANY NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. Return to Superior Orthotics and Prosthetics for an evaluation and recheck every 6 months.
