Care of Prosthesis and Prosthetic Guidelines
Congratulations on your new prosthesis. Whether it is endoskeletal, with a soft foam cover, or exoskeletal, with a hard lamined finish, there are helpful guidelines to follow.
• AVOID GETTING YOUR PROSTHESIS WET. Any wood, metal, or foam components can swell, rust, or saturate which would adversely affect the function of the prosthesis.
• NOISES. Be aware of any unusual creaking sounds, popping or clicking noises, and contact your prosthetist for an immediate inspection.
• HEAT. Do not leave the prosthesis in the hot car, as it is possible for items to loose their shape.
• WEIGHT LOSS AND WEIGHT GAIN CAN AFFECT THE FIT OF YOUR PROSTHESIS. Contact your prosthetist for any necessary adjustments.
• WIPE OUT THE INSIDE OF YOUR ABOVE KNEE SUCTION SOCKET PROSTHESIS WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL AND LET DRY OVERNIGHT FOR BEST PERSONAL HYGIENE.
• PROSTHETIC SOCKS SHOULD BE CHANGED DAILY. Always wear a clean dry sock.
• LOCKING LINERS AND ALPHA LINERS SHOULD BE WASHED DAILY ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURE'S DIRECTIONS.
• CONTACT YOUR PROSTHETIST FOR ANY NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS. Return to Superior Orthotics and Prosthetics for an evaluation and recheck every 6 months. |
